This is my guy. We saw old Oswaldo's home in Quito, as well as the museum he set up that houses these beautiful pieces. Of course I couldn't really understand most of what was said on the "tour," and nobody *cough*Anita*cough* helped translate . Dude was much involved in progressive movements, much loved, and worked towards a better world through his interpretation and representation of physical and esthetic beauty (aka mostly pain and sorrow). Hasta la victoria siempre, manana hay misa para los sordos.

That is some depressing art... Except that painting on the bottom right of the bottom left picture. What an odd juxtaposition.
yea his stuff is hella poignant. we got a print of his of two women's faces all tripped out. it's not that sad looking actually. come by and check it out.
this reminds me of egon schiele a little bit. i always liked his stuff. (like this) pretty depressing though. this is more colorful than his stuff.
i had never heard of schiele, but i think you're right, there is some similarity there. i think the most immediate comparison point though is picasso.
